Una O'Kane

Born in Dublin into a family of musicians, Una studied violin and viola with Maeve Broderick at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

She was the leader of The Hibernian Chamber Orchestra for several years and she has a particular interest in involving young people in music. She is the director of the Dublin Youth Orchestra's summer chamber music school at Aravon. Una enjoys teaching at all levels and is currently Head of Music in Blackrock College, Co. Dublin.

Una played with the distinctive string ensemble in U2's single 'The Sweetest Thing'. She has also recorded the Oscar-nominated song 'The Hands that Built America' with U2 which was featured in the film 'Gangs of New York.'

Her wide-ranging musical tastes have led her to play with such diverse musicians as Kanye West, The Global Funk Orchestra, Josh Groban, Jamiroquai, The Corrs, P Diddy, Westlife, Josh Ritter, BellX1, David Gray and Kila. She has toured extensively in China, America, Korea, Japan and throughout Europe.

Una loves travelling around Italy and is at present making a violin.
