The Bamboo Sessions are back once again on Wednesday 29th August in The Sugar Club. Five top Dublin singer songwriters will each perform their own songs with a live string quartet. You now have the opportunity to see the next wave of home grown talent in an exclusive setting, joined by Ireland's leading classical musicians.

Ireland has recently become a hot house for songwriting excellence. Names like Damien Rice and Glen Hansard are now familiar to audiences around the world. What a lot of people don't realise is that you can see undiscovered artists of the same quality most nights of the week in Dublin venues. The Bamboo Sessions is a showcase of the best of these future stars.

The DMT String Quartet are specially formed for this show. Members of the quartet have played with U2, R.E.M., the National Symphony Orchestra and everything in between. This show gives all the performers involved a once off opportunity to showcase their own material with newly written string arrangements. In the past, artists such as the Beatles, Nick Drake and Elvis Costello have highlighted the power of a solo performer with string quartet. Now, you can hear this amazing sound for yourself live in a Dublin venue.

The Sugar Club is the ideal setting for this intimate acoustic show, with tiered banquette seating adorned in plush velour, surrounded by beautiful wood-panelled walls. The atmospheric, candle lit surroundings, perfectly compliment the rich musical sounds.

The Singers

Fiach is a Dubliner, well respected and loved within the Irish music scene for his beautiful songwriting, exceptional voice and fantastic guitar playing. He is fondly known as the “Hardest Working Artist in Ireland”. His voice is full with expression and control, some times hard and coarse to direct his agression on political and social issues, then suddenly wrapped around you with soft lyrics and breathy tones in his seeringly confessional lyrics.

Jenny Lindfors is a highly regarded singer on the live scene. Her first full album, When the Night Time Comes was released March 2007 to nationwide critical acclaim. The first single '2x1' received heavy airplay on all the main radio stations. She has played support slots for Rodrigo y Gabriela, Perry Blake and The Devlins. Her strong vocals and sense of harmony has made Jenny popular for collaborating with other musicians. She provides backing vocals for Mundy in studio, and regularly performs with other singers in a collective called The Happy Gang.

Ronan Byrne was a founder member and guitar player with legendary Irish rock band LiR. He continues to be a creative powerhouse involved in singing, playing and writing songs with his band Earthquake Hair. They are currently finishing off a new studio album . You can also find Ronan singing a few songs acoustically every Wednesday night in Cassidy's bar, where he co-hosts an open mic night along with Fiach.

Little Dark Star is a performer from Dublin. He writes songs in the style of Brecht, Bowie, Bernelle and Brel. Drawing heavily on the tradition of musical theatre, his songs have a dramatic and lyrically powerful edge. On record, he has independently produced two well-received EPs and has also just finished recording a full-length album of new songs entitled “Promise”, which has just been released.

Aidan Murphy is the organiser of the event and will be performing some of his own songs. Aidan was previously musical director of the Global Funk Orchestra (20 piece funk/soul band) and will be writing the string arrangements for the evening.
